Bourton on the water

Young and old find something interesting to do in Bourton on the water . Popularly known as Venice of the Cotswolds, there are several elegant arched bridges on the River Windrush. Little Venice is one of the most popular tourist spots and is a must if you are in the neighbourhood.

Since we had only half a day we tried to make most of the day by visiting all the popular sites and each one was better than the other.

Birdland: this is an authentic bird zoo which has the most exotic birds and a remarkable collection of Penguins. They are my all time favourites and I had a wonderful time watching them. The other exotic birds were from many parts of Africa and South America.

The Dragon fly Maze: comprises a yew maze with a pavilion at the centre. The fun part is to find the clues to discover the final answer at the pavilion. We greatly enjoyed going in the maze and discovering the clues.

Model Railway exhibition: there is an amazing collection of the model trains and engines with tracks which can actually run indoors. It takes the fancy of old people especially as they have all grown up with trains and engines as toys.

Cotswold perfumery: the perfumes are such a delight, of course why wouldn’t it be as they supply the Queen herself.

Cotswold motoring museum and toy collection: overflowing with vintage car collections, motorcycles, cycles, sign boards , it is such a delight to see the toys of yore too.

There are many gardens in and around the village, but it was time for us to drive back.

I will always cherish and remember the day I spent in Bourton on the water as it truly lifts your spirits.
